Happiness is something we all pursue. So, the question arises: "What is happiness?"
Why is it that some people achieve career success and material wealth, yet remain unhappy?
If we view happiness simply as a human emotion, it can be difficult to describe it in words.
However, if you think of happiness as a Happiness Portfolio or a well-balanced meal, it becomes much easier to understand.
In this portfolio, there are four main categories, and you need all four to ensure that your happiness grows sustainably and over the long term.
1. Faith / Life Philosophy
This helps us understand the meaning of life and how to live a meaningful one.
2. Family
Though we often don’t get to choose them, they are the people you can rely on, to varying degrees.
3. Friendship
These are usually close friendships that you have actively chosen.
4. Meaningful Work
This isn’t about a high salary or a glamorous job title.
It’s about doing work that allows you to earn success for yourself and bring value to others.
All four of these elements are essential for your happiness experience, and more importantly, it’s the balance between them that matters. They need to complement each other and coexist harmoniously.
As you can see, some elements are beyond our control, but more than 50% of the factors affecting your happiness are within your control.
So, how can you achieve happiness even if you lack one or more of these elements?
